Everyone’s prices, on one page.

Card rate, software, hardware and contract length for seven UK EPOS and payment providers — taken from their own pricing pages, dated, and including the ones where we lose.

The market

What everyone charges.

One of these providers does not publish a card rate at all, and another publishes two. That is worth knowing before you compare anything else, because for most shops the rate moves more money than the licence does.

Read the small print under each name: Square Plus, SumUp POS Plus, Shopify Grow and Advanced, Lightspeed Core and Plus, and an Epos Now support licence sold separately from the software. Five of the six put features behind a higher plan. There is one epos-365 licence and it is the whole system — the multi-site back office, the reporting, the Booker file and every feature we have built. A single shop gets what a twenty-branch group gets, and the only thing that changes with size is how many shops you are paying for.

Been quoted less? Bring it to us.

If another supplier has quoted you a better deal, we would like the chance to match it — and we will tell you when we cannot. Two conditions, both in your favour: we want to see your shop first, and we want to show you the system first. There are things in it a shop your size would normally have to buy an enterprise licence to get, and a price you match blind is a price you never really compared.

The honest version

Where we lose.

Choose someone else if…

  • You take a small amount on card. A SumUp or Zettle reader with free software will cost you less than we will.
  • You want the lowest possible domestic card rate and nothing else. SumUp Payments Plus is 0.99% against our 1%.
  • Your shop and your website must share one stock file. Shopify is built for that and we are not.
  • You need table service or a kitchen screen. We have neither.

Choose us if…

  • You take real money on card. At £12,000 a month, 1% is £120 and 1.75% is £210.
  • You run a Premier, Londis, Budgens or Family Shopper and want the price file handled.
  • You cash up more than once a day and need each shift to stand on its own.
  • You want every price published before you speak to anyone.

Worth asking anyone

  • What is the card rate, as a number, including Amex and commercial cards?
  • What is the minimum term, the notice period and the cost of leaving?
  • What is not included in the monthly price?
  • Who answers the phone on a Sunday, and what does that cost?

Questions

The ones people actually ask.

Who is actually cheapest?

It depends entirely on how much you take on card. If you take very little, a card reader from SumUp or Zettle with free software will cost you less than we will, and we would say so on the phone. Once you are taking a few thousand a month on card, the rate matters more than the licence, and that is where we win.

Why is your software dearer than Square or Zettle?

Because they are payment companies with a till attached and we are a till with payments attached. Their free app does not do supplier price files, spot checks, branch transfers, multiple shift ends a day or margin by category. If you do not need those, you do not need us.

SumUp looks cheaper on the rate. Is it?

On domestic cards, yes — 0.99% on their £19 a month plan against our 1%. We are not going to pretend otherwise. Their premium, international and Amex rate is 1.69%, and their POS software is a further £39 a month, which brings the total above ours. Compare the whole bill, not one line of it.

Why do two of these say "not published"?

Because they do not publish it. Epos Now references a flat card rate without giving the figure, and Lightspeed does not show a card rate at all. That is not a criticism of their product — but you should ask both of them for the number in writing before you compare anything.

Are these prices up to date?

They were taken from each company’s own UK pricing page on 7 to 12 September 2026. Prices change and promotions run. Check theirs before you decide, exactly as you should check ours.

What are you actually best at?

A UK convenience, off-licence or symbol store taking real money on card, that wants the Booker price file handled, several shift ends a day, and one person to ring. That is the shop this was built in.

An EPOS invoice and a card statement is all we need. You get one page back — licence, hardware, card rates and contract length — and if you are better off where you are, we will tell you.
